Snippets from AIM iMag Issue 59

Just in case you were wondering where issue 59 of the downloadable AIM iMag had gone, here are sample pages to whet your appetite.  Our editor has had a health problem (say what you like here: raving loony is fine) but has plodded on gallantly and all the pages of the iMag are complete. Now we just need the techno wizard to upload all the pages of the iMag when he returns from a well deserved holiday.

In the meantime, grab yourself a cuppa and enjoy these wonderful snippets from the next issue :)

Alice blue room set -  A doll's house room full of mini stitching

Who has the most beautiful doll's house? Could it be you?
Janet Granger has just launched a competition on her website, with a fantastic prize of £200 in vouchers to spend on her website to one lucky winner,  plus two runner-up prizes of £20 in vouchers! It's to celebrate the fact that she has been running her doll's house needlepoint kit business 20 years this year.

All you need to do to enter is take a photo of a room in your doll's house with at least four items of mini stitching in that have been made from her miniature needlepoint range of kits or chart packs, and you're in with a chance! The closing date is 14th November 2016, to give you time to stitch something specially, if you choose to. Follow the link from the home page at www.janetgranger.co.uk to see full details of how to enter.

Good luck!

This is what £200 of kits looks like!

24th Scale by Bear Cabin Miniatures

AIM member Julia Jeffreys of Bear Cabin Miniatures has recently made some tentative steps into the world of 24th scale. Julia's first passion in miniatures is 12th scale 'blackwork' embroidery, but recently she explained that she has been turning her needle to the smaller 24th scale. Shown above are her 24th scale cushions which are a little smaller than a penny coin and below are some of her original 12th scale 'blackwork' cushions photographed on one of her popular reupholstered Victorian style sofas.

AIM iMag issue 56 preview

Get ready....

Issue 56 of the free online AIM iMag is in its final stages of production and will be available to read and download soon.

Thursday, 8 October 2015

AIM member Janet Granger has recently launched new little pole screen and fire screen needlepoint kits for doll's houses. She tells us that the sweet, little kits are great fun to make and will give you hours of stitching pleasure during the winter evenings.

The pole screens are to be stitched on 40 count silk gauze and the fire screens on 32 count silk gauze. These co-ordinating kits are all designed around the theme of 'the four seasons'. Janet explained that she already had the second fire screen from the left in this line-up below in her range of over 260 kits and that inspired her to design the rest, as she thought that the other seasons could all be represented in needlepoint, too. They are all suitable for twelfth scale doll's houses.

The pole screen, when finished, is five inches high, and the fire screen is 2 3/4 inches high. The fire screen kit contains a white metal kit in three pieces to make the frame, and the pole screen kit contains finely-turned mahogany pieces to make the pole screen. Each kit contains a colour block chart to count the design from (the design isn't printed on the fabric), a suitable fine needle, generous amounts of Anchor stranded cotton (floss), a piece of silk gauze and detailed instructions.

The fire screen frames are simply glued together with a contact adhesive such as Araldite, and then finished with enamel hobby paint, such as Humbrol (not included in the kit, but the colour used on the model is suggested on the instruction sheet). The pole screens are glued together with wood glue, and then finished with mahogany wax polish - you can purchase a Wood Finishing Kit from Janet's website for this, or you can simply leave the wood in its natural state.

Janet explained that both types of kit are very easy to make, but she also provides tutorials on her website about how to put each one together, if you'd like to see that first!

The fire screen kits are £20.95 each, and the pole screen kits are £19.95 each and would make great Christmas presents, either for yourself or a friend.

Visit www.janetgranger.co.uk to see these kits now!

Calling all AIM Members :)

The Ed team has drawn breath, girded its loins and probably had some wine so now is the time, dear AIMers, to get the next issue of our popular magazine up and running.

A while ago I suggested a baby theme and this seemed to go down well.   Babies as in all creatures small: human, animal, floral buds....following my drift?  Cots, cribs, layettes, puppies, kittens, tadpoles, toys...... any more suggestions welcomed. For 55 and 56 – yes we think ahead – we have garden delights, haute cuisine and haute couture lined up.

I am looking for projects for 54 such as baby doll making, clothing, cuddly toys...... again, ideas welcome.
As always this is not the whole story of the imag – just a theme so other projects and articles are always welcome.  Remember we have the ‘Getting To Know You’ and ‘Blog of the Season’ features for anyone wanting some good free publicising as well as the facility to include one-off features on other subjects.

Could anyone come up with a feature on the changing style of baby clothes through the years or the history of the nanny?  As always help is available with the writing and formatting of such items – just go for it!

You can contact any of the editors personally or through me spwatson@ntlworld.com  or at AIMeditors@virginmedia.com.

I need offers/suggestions asap, raw copy by April 1st for formatting by one of the Ed team and formatted (if you are one of the clever folk who can do that) ready for the Ed team by April 10th. An album will be available shortly – please, please remember to include your name, details, contact etc.

Looking forward to a bulging inbox!

New Additions to Janet Granger's 'Summer Roses' Kit Range

Pretty floral stitching for the mini dining table!

There's a couple of new kits on Janet Granger's website this week - a table runner, and matching placemats, which are both to be stitched on 32 count silk gauze. They are in the popular 'Summer Roses' series - deep red and soft gold roses, on a pale cream background - suitable for many eras and styles of dollhouse. Each kit contains stranded cotton, a generous piece of silk gauze, clear instructions and stitch diagrams, a suitable needle and a colour block chart to count the design from. When finished, the runner measures 3 1/2 long x 7/8 inch wide. The placemats each measure 1 3/8 wide by 1 inch high, with enough materials to make four per pack.

Each kit is available from the What's New page of Janet's website
www.janetgranger.co.uk/acatalog/WhatNew.html

The table runner kit is £12.95, and the placemats kit is £14.95 (to make four)

There is a FREE ONLINE TUTORIALS page at
www.janetgranger.co.uk/tutorials.htm so that you can see how easy it is to create these mini kits.
