Janet Granger Competition

Alice blue room set -  A doll's house room full of mini stitching

Who has the most beautiful doll's house? Could it be you?
Janet Granger has just launched a competition on her website, with a fantastic prize of £200 in vouchers to spend on her website to one lucky winner,  plus two runner-up prizes of £20 in vouchers! It's to celebrate the fact that she has been running her doll's house needlepoint kit business 20 years this year.

All you need to do to enter is take a photo of a room in your doll's house with at least four items of mini stitching in that have been made from her miniature needlepoint range of kits or chart packs, and you're in with a chance! The closing date is 14th November 2016, to give you time to stitch something specially, if you choose to. Follow the link from the home page at www.janetgranger.co.uk to see full details of how to enter.

Good luck!

This is what £200 of kits looks like!

AIM member Janet Granger has recently launched new little pole screen and fire screen needlepoint kits for doll's houses. She tells us that the sweet, little kits are great fun to make and will give you hours of stitching pleasure during the winter evenings.

The pole screens are to be stitched on 40 count silk gauze and the fire screens on 32 count silk gauze. These co-ordinating kits are all designed around the theme of 'the four seasons'. Janet explained that she already had the second fire screen from the left in this line-up below in her range of over 260 kits and that inspired her to design the rest, as she thought that the other seasons could all be represented in needlepoint, too. They are all suitable for twelfth scale doll's houses.

The pole screen, when finished, is five inches high, and the fire screen is 2 3/4 inches high. The fire screen kit contains a white metal kit in three pieces to make the frame, and the pole screen kit contains finely-turned mahogany pieces to make the pole screen. Each kit contains a colour block chart to count the design from (the design isn't printed on the fabric), a suitable fine needle, generous amounts of Anchor stranded cotton (floss), a piece of silk gauze and detailed instructions.

The fire screen frames are simply glued together with a contact adhesive such as Araldite, and then finished with enamel hobby paint, such as Humbrol (not included in the kit, but the colour used on the model is suggested on the instruction sheet). The pole screens are glued together with wood glue, and then finished with mahogany wax polish - you can purchase a Wood Finishing Kit from Janet's website for this, or you can simply leave the wood in its natural state.

Janet explained that both types of kit are very easy to make, but she also provides tutorials on her website about how to put each one together, if you'd like to see that first!

The fire screen kits are £20.95 each, and the pole screen kits are £19.95 each and would make great Christmas presents, either for yourself or a friend.

Visit www.janetgranger.co.uk to see these kits now!

AIM Members News 2012 ~ Janet Granger

Three 'works in progress' designs, to be stitched on 40 count silk gauze, by Janet Granger (Doorstop, slippers and handbag designs)

Miniature needlework stands, for the embroiderer in your doll’s house!
If you love embroidery, then surely the lady dolls in your doll’s house do as well! Six designs for needlework stands have just been launched by Janet Granger, to be stitched on 40 count silk gauze using tent stitch (like half cross stitch). Components for the finely turned mahogany frame are included in the kit.
There are three ‘picture designs’, for various styles and eras in your doll’s house – a Tudor one, a Georgian one and a Victorian one. There are also several ‘work in progress’ designs for what would be ‘3-D’ items in real life. So, the embroiderer in your doll’s house can now be seen to be working on a project such as a pair of slippers, a handbag or a doorstop!
Each needlework stand kit contains a piece of 40 count silk gauze, Anchor stranded cotton threads, the mahogany frame pieces, a colour block chart (the design is not printed on the fabric), detailed instructions and a suitable needle. The stand measures two and three eighths of an inch wide by three and three quarters high (6cm by 9cm) when finished.
If you are a beginner to mini-stitching and are unsure as to whether you would be able to make one of these needlework stands, why not have a look at the free online tutorial section of Janet’s website first? It guides you through every stage of stitching and finishing the needlework stand, with detailed photos to show you exactly what you need to do. You'll see just how easy they are to make!
Each kit costs £19.95. P&P is £1 per order if placed by post, or p&p FREE worldwide if ordered via the website. Janet takes VISA, Mastercard and Paypal (online only), or you can make your cheque payable to Janet Granger.
The kits are available from: www.janetgranger.co.uk/acatalog/index

AIM Member Showcase ~ Janet Granger

Introducing AIM Member, Janet Granger of Janet Granger Designs. Janet has been selling miniature embroidery online since 1996 and her wonderful 12th scale Embroidery kits are superb.
Janet has just launched new twelfth scale needlepoint kits on her website, www.janetgranger.co.uk , so why not take a look? Both ranges are called 'Alice' - there is a minty green/beige colourway, and a blue/peach colourway to choose from. Each range comprises nine kits altogether. They can all be bought individually, but the photos below show them together, to tempt you!! The basic 'Alice' design is derived from a Victorian floral motif, but these soft furnishings would look great in a 'shabby chic' interior, too. For those of you who want to know these things, the design is called ‘Alice’, after a friend of Janet's who lives in Edinburgh!
The design is available in all these different types of kit: two sizes of carpet, cushion, round footstool, rectangular stool, dining chair, firescreen, bellpull and bolster cushion. The carpets are to be stitched on 18 count interlock canvas with Appleton’s crewel wool (chart packs are also available, if you’d prefer to make them in a different colourway or a different count of fabric). The cushion is to be stitched on 22 count canvas with two strands of Anchor stranded cotton. All the other kits are to be stitched on 32 count silk gauze, with one strand of Anchor.
Prices start at 4.50 GBP for the cushion kit, up to 21.50 GBP for the large carpet kit. Shipping is free, worldwide, on any order of 10 GBP or over. Under 10 GBP, a flat rate of 1.25 GBP per order applies.
So, why not treat your doll's house to a room decorated in a beautiful co-ordinating range of stitched soft furnishings?

Count Your Blessings from Janet Granger

This is Janet Granger's latest addition to her range of mini samplers. It is called 'Count Your Blessings', and is to be worked on 32 count evenweave fabric. The kit contains everything you need to complete the sampler, including the wooden picture frame to mount the finished stitching in. We often take for granted what we have. However much we DO have in the way of ‘stuff’, we always seem to want something more. And in the affluent West of the 21st Century, there seems to be a huge range of products ready to tempt us to buy more, when it may be that things you can’t buy, such as friendship, is really more important. In Victorian times, young girls were taught to value what they had (however little that might be), by stitching a phrase such as ‘Count your blessings’ as a sampler motto. Imagine how it would be drilled into your brain, if you had to painstakingly stitch this for months, gradually building up the words and motifs, when you were maybe as young as six, as many schoolchildren were when they were instructed to make samplers such as this! Priced at £7.95, the kit is available from her website,  www.janetgranger.co uk

'Token of Love' from Janet Granger

This is Janet Granger's latest addition to her range of mini samplers. It is called 'Token of Love', and is to be worked on 32 count evenweave fabric. The kit contains the wooden picture frame to mount the finished stitching in. It is in the style of the Ackworth school, which was a boarding school opened in 1779 in Yorkshire, where the girls were taught this unusual style of sampler in their needlework classes. Priced at £7.95, the kit is available from her website http://www.janetgranger.co.uk/
