24th Scale by Bear Cabin Miniatures

AIM member Julia Jeffreys of Bear Cabin Miniatures has recently made some tentative steps into the world of 24th scale. Julia's first passion in miniatures is 12th scale 'blackwork' embroidery, but recently she explained that she has been turning her needle to the smaller 24th scale. Shown above are her 24th scale cushions which are a little smaller than a penny coin and below are some of her original 12th scale 'blackwork' cushions photographed on one of her popular reupholstered Victorian style sofas.

Latest furniture designs from Bear Cabin Miniatures

AIM members Hywel and Julia Jeffreys of Bear Cabin Miniatures specialise in 12th scale miniatures for a Fantasy or Tudor theme. Hywel designs and creates his own unique furniture from hardwood, which he cuts, creates, carves and waxes to the point where he is happy to add them to his 'Rustic Woodland' range of dressed, and undressed furniture and accessories.

When Julia is not busy stitching tiny owl or cat themed samplers and cushions to match the fantasy theme, she happily helps to dress the furniture, using many of Hywel's handmade accessories, dragons and pumpkins!

Classic Victorian Berlin woolwork designs to make in needlepoint

Do you own a Victorian style twelfth scale doll’s house? Then you will love the new kits from Janet Granger – a large collection of classic Berlin woolwork style carpets and matching accessories, all in a stunningly dramatic black and gold pattern, with a central panel of flowers in deep jewel tones.
They are all to be stitched using tent stitch (like half cross stitch) – the fabric counts range from 18 canvas (for the carpets), to 32 silk gauze, and even 40 gauze for the teeny handbag. The carpet kits contain Appletons crewel wool, and all the other kits contain Anchor stranded cotton. The kits have clear instructions, and colour block charts to count the design from. All necessary components are included in the kits, such as the metal bellpull end, or the wooden chair pieces.
Have a look at the What's New? page to see all the kits: http://www.janetgranger.co.uk/acatalog/WhatNew.html
If you haven’t stitched in this scale before, or are unsure about making one of these kits, why not check out the FREE ONLINE TUTORIALS page at
www.janetgranger.co.uk/tutorials.htm and see how easy it is to create one of these!
The kits start from £4.75. P&P is £1.75 per order if placed by post (cheques to Janet Granger); p&p online depends on the order total (but free over £40).

A Pot of Wall Flowers by Marianne Cook

Today AIM member Marianne Cook tells us about her latest handmade miniature delight....

"One flower that I really love and have been wanting to make for ages is the wallflower and recently I devoted a while to working out a way to make one. It involved painting the tissue paper, punching out flower shapes and then adding shading to each individual blossom.

After that was complete, I had to make the tiny buds which cluster around the top of each stem. Each stem has leaves growing all the way up; these needed to be cut and punched from painted paper. Then the was a lot of wire and glue!

And finally, a micro tip pen to indicate the stamens in each flower head!

This is the finished result....

I'll leave you to decide if I managed to achieve the realistic effect aimed at!"

NEW! Tiny firescreens in needlepoint from Janet Granger

Due to constant requests from customers to expand the range of existing doll’s house scale firescreen designs, and include matching designs for other items in her range, Janet has just launched these four firescreen kits. They are to be stitched in needlepoint on 32 count silk gauze (counted from a colour block chart), with one strand of Anchor cotton. Everything you need is included in the kit – even the white metal firescreen, which comes as three parts and simply needs to be glued together and then painted. Choose from a willow pattern motif, a classic tree of life, a stunning Berlin woolwork design in black and gold or a floral design with a green trellis background.

The kits can be ordered from the ONLINE SHOP now:
Take a look at the Matching Kits page, to see other items that will co-ordinate with these firescreens:

Christmas delights from Homewardflight

It is always a delight for me to open an email from Sadie of Homewardflight Dolls House Miniatures. Sadie makes the most amazing artisan OOAK 12th Scale food and my latest email from Sadie continues to confirm her passion for detail.

Sadie explained that capturing the spirit of such a special time of year in miniature is something she looks forward to every year and whilst Christmas itself comes and goes all too soon, it is so wonderful to be able to hold on to those magical moments, captured forever in 1:12th scale. Whether it be the excitement of the night before Christmas and leaving cookies and milk out for Santa, with a few carrots to make sure Rudolph doesn't go short or a centrepiece of fresh fruit and nuts, capturing that moment when the house is burgeoning with all that festive food waiting to be eaten and the celebrations to begin! Take a look in Sadie's Etsy store or visit her lovely blog for more details on her wonderful 12th Scale Christmas offerings.

New Dolls from Kays Miniature Dolls

Kay from Kays Mini Dolls has been telling us at AIM how much she has enjoyed repainting and dressing BJD dolls. Kay explains;

"I have been making costumes and doing repaints on the large BJD fashion dolls for a while now along with making miniature costumed porcelain dolls. I looked into moulds for the ball jointed miniature porcelain dolls but they are VERY expensive and I HATE stringing dolls. A few weeks ago I discovered the Heidi Ott miniature ball jointed doll! Of course I bought a few and started the repainting process as the factory paint was nice but not as I wanted it. That accomplished I began making patterns for removable historical and very fancy costumes. Many paper towel patterns and mock-up costumes later, I was finally able to complete two costumes and underwear and two hats. These little BJD dolls are such a delight to pose!"

I'm sure you will agree with us that Kay's work is truly lovely!

Kay's wonderful work can be purchased from her website www.kaysminidolls.com or from Ebay under the seller name of  little_bluestudio.
