Christmas delights from Homewardflight

It is always a delight for me to open an email from Sadie of Homewardflight Dolls House Miniatures. Sadie makes the most amazing artisan OOAK 12th Scale food and my latest email from Sadie continues to confirm her passion for detail.

Sadie explained that capturing the spirit of such a special time of year in miniature is something she looks forward to every year and whilst Christmas itself comes and goes all too soon, it is so wonderful to be able to hold on to those magical moments, captured forever in 1:12th scale. Whether it be the excitement of the night before Christmas and leaving cookies and milk out for Santa, with a few carrots to make sure Rudolph doesn't go short or a centrepiece of fresh fruit and nuts, capturing that moment when the house is burgeoning with all that festive food waiting to be eaten and the celebrations to begin! Take a look in Sadie's Etsy store or visit her lovely blog for more details on her wonderful 12th Scale Christmas offerings.

New Dolls from Kays Miniature Dolls

Kay from Kays Mini Dolls has been telling us at AIM how much she has enjoyed repainting and dressing BJD dolls. Kay explains;

 "I have been making costumes and doing repaints on the large BJD fashion dolls for a while now along with making miniature costumed porcelain dolls. I looked into moulds for the ball jointed miniature porcelain dolls but they are VERY expensive and I HATE stringing dolls. A few weeks ago I discovered the Heidi Ott miniature ball jointed doll! Of course I bought a few and started the repainting process as the factory paint was nice but not as I wanted it. That accomplished I began making patterns for removable historical and very fancy costumes. Many paper towel patterns and mock-up costumes later, I was finally able to complete two costumes and underwear and two hats. These little BJD dolls are such a delight to pose!"

I'm sure you will agree with us that Kay's work is truly lovely!

Kay's wonderful work can be purchased from her website www.kaysminidolls.com or from Ebay under the seller name of  little_bluestudio.

Weeny handbags for doll’s house dolls by Janet Granger

Wouldn’t the lady dolls in any doll’s house covet these tiny handbags – just launched in kit form by Janet Granger. There are eight designs available altogether, to be stitched on either 32 or 40 count silk gauze, depending on the design, using tent stitch (like half cross stitch).
The series covers day bags and evening bags, for several different historical eras. There’s even an Art Deco one called ‘Jazz Age’.

Each handbag kit contains a piece of silk gauze (32 or 40), Anchor stranded cotton threads, a colour block chart (the design is not printed on the fabric), detailed instructions, suitable needles, a tiny bead for the closure, beading thread, and fine gold thread for the handle. The bags measure approximately seven eighths of an inch across, when finished.

If you are a beginner to mini-stitching and are unsure as to whether you would be able to make one of these handbags, why not have a look at the free online tutorial section of Janet’s website first? It guides you through every stage of stitching and finishing the kit, with detailed photos to show you exactly what you need to do. You'll see just how easy they are to make!

The kits are available from here:
http://www.janetgranger.co.uk/acatalog/index.html

The tutorial is here:
http://www.janetgranger.co.uk/tutorials.htm

Each kit costs £9.95. Orders over £40 are sent post free - under £40, there is a flat-rate charge of £1.50 per order.

AIM Members News 2012 ~ Flower and Plants by Marianne Cook

12th Scale Lenten Rose

Fancy a lovely little pot of flowers for your miniature scene?

Then pop over to Marianne's Etsy Store and marvel at all her beautiful creations.
Marianne reproduces the plants and flowers that she sees in gardens into 12th scale.

Marianne tells us that she prefers generally to make this sort of flower and plant, rather than perfect florist blooms, aiming to make them to look as if they are growing or have just been cut. The pot may be cracked or mossy and even have a weed growing alongside it... Some flowers may be overblown, or not yet open... A leaf or two may be blemished... and so on.

Plants and flowers can be bought from her website or from her Etsy shop, 'Marianne26', and as special commissions.She also occasionally sells tiny framed pictures made in the same way as the real-life-size paintings, and miniature needlepoint/tapestry pieces.

AIM Members News 2012 ~ Janet Granger

Three 'works in progress' designs, to be stitched on 40 count silk gauze, by Janet Granger (Doorstop, slippers and handbag designs)

Miniature needlework stands, for the embroiderer in your doll’s house!
If you love embroidery, then surely the lady dolls in your doll’s house do as well! Six designs for needlework stands have just been launched by Janet Granger, to be stitched on 40 count silk gauze using tent stitch (like half cross stitch). Components for the finely turned mahogany frame are included in the kit.
There are three ‘picture designs’, for various styles and eras in your doll’s house – a Tudor one, a Georgian one and a Victorian one. There are also several ‘work in progress’ designs for what would be ‘3-D’ items in real life. So, the embroiderer in your doll’s house can now be seen to be working on a project such as a pair of slippers, a handbag or a doorstop!
Each needlework stand kit contains a piece of 40 count silk gauze, Anchor stranded cotton threads, the mahogany frame pieces, a colour block chart (the design is not printed on the fabric), detailed instructions and a suitable needle. The stand measures two and three eighths of an inch wide by three and three quarters high (6cm by 9cm) when finished.
If you are a beginner to mini-stitching and are unsure as to whether you would be able to make one of these needlework stands, why not have a look at the free online tutorial section of Janet’s website first? It guides you through every stage of stitching and finishing the needlework stand, with detailed photos to show you exactly what you need to do. You'll see just how easy they are to make!
Each kit costs £19.95. P&P is £1 per order if placed by post, or p&p FREE worldwide if ordered via the website. Janet takes VISA, Mastercard and Paypal (online only), or you can make your cheque payable to Janet Granger.
The kits are available from: www.janetgranger.co.uk/acatalog/index

AIM Members News 2012 ~ Dateman Books

Terry & Anne from Dateman Books have been working hard over the last few weeks to finish the first two of their commemorative books for 2012.  The first book is The Life and Works of Charles Dickens which commemorates the 200th anniversary of his birth.

The second book is RMS Titanic, commemorating the tragic maiden voyage of the ship. Terry and Anne explain that they are particularly pleased with this book. For the first time, they have added a flyout allowing them to show the ship spread over two pages which allows the reader to open them up and see the inside of the ship.

Both these books can be purchased online at;
